Title: Tensor interaction and three body interaction in finite nuclei

Speaker: Hiroshi Toki (RCNP, Osaka University)

Prof. Toki obtained his Ph.D. degree from Osaka University in 1774. He worked for many years in Germany and the United states before becoming an associate professor in Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1983 and a professor in 1993. He joined Osaka University in 1994 and served as Director of RCNP between 2001 and 2007. He is now a professor emeritus of Osaka University. His main research interests are nuclear structure physics, astronuclear physics, color confinement, and role of chiral symmetry in nucleon-nucleon interaction and nuclear structure/reactions. He has also made important contributions in eliminating electronic noise in large scientific facilities, such as those in J-PARC.

Abstract: Tensor interaction provides the dominant attraction in deuteron. I will first convince that the tensor interaction is treated with configurations directly connected to the shell model state by the direct application of the tensor operator. Applying this prescription for C12, we find that the tensor interaction favors formation of alpha particles. We shall discuss also the importance of the delta excitation, which provides three body interaction in finite nuclei.

Title: Gaussian Expansion Method and application to hypernuclear physcs:

Speaker: Emiko Hiyama (RIKEN)

Dr. Hiyama obtained her Ph.D. degree from Kyushu University of Japan in 1998. From 1998 to 2000, she was a special postdoctoral researcher in Riken. From 2004 to 2008 she worked in KEK as an associate researcher and form 2004 to 2008 an associate professor in Nara Women’s University. Since 2008, she has been an associate chief scientist in RIKEN. Her main research interests are accurate few-body methods and hypernuclear physics.

Abstract: In hypernuclear physics, there are a lot of interesting subjects from viewpoints of few-body systems. To study structure of hypernuclei, we have been developing our method, Gaussian Expansion Method. In this talk, I shall explain about Gaussian Expansion Method and application to hypernuclear physics.
